Entry is free! \nThe Thames Valley Art Society was founded in Kingston upon Thames in 1906 by Lucy Millett\, a woman with formidable organisational and artistic skills. She was the first woman teacher at Camberwell School of Art and lived in Hampton Wick. The first members attended “Lantern Lectures” in her studio in the Old Malthouse building overlooking the River Thames . The first exhibition was held in the Kingston Museum Art Gallery in 1906\, two years after it’s completion\, and the Society still exhibits there today. \nFrom the start\, many members were practising artists\, two of the most notable being Sir Frank Brangwyn and Graham Sutherland. \nTerence Cuneo\, famous for his fine railway paintings was President for many years\, often exhibiting with the Society. \nThe current President\, Ann Ryves who attended Kingston School of Art\, continues the work started by Lucy Millett\, encouraging aspiring artists in the Kingston area to come together to paint\, exchange ideas and exhibit their work.
